4/25/19 Update:  Currently, we are only accepting lifeguard applications for the Summer 2019 Season.  If you are interested in applying for other positions next year, please submit an application January - February.


Arlington Recreation is now accepting applications for seasonal summer employment.  The number of positions is limited due to the number of returning employees.


Applicants are needed to work the entire summer season (reasonable vacation, one week maximum).  To apply for any of our summer positions, please complete this Employment Application and return to Recreation Department (422 Summer Street).

Below is a list of our positions:

GATE/SNACK BAR STAFF:
We are seeking qualified individuals to work at Reservoir Beach checking in customers, working in the snack shack and performing general cleaning duties.  Hours will vary.  Everyone will be required to work a few weekend shifts each month.  Starting rate $12.00 per hour. Applicants must be at least 14 years old. Completion of 8th grade is required.

LIFEGUARDS:

Arlington Recreation is seeking qualified individuals to lifeguard at Reservoir Beach ensuring the safety of swimmers, enforcing regulations, preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and performing general maintenance duties.  Must possess current Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification and CPR Certification prior to employment.

Hours will vary and some weeks guards will work up to 40 hours. There will be 2 shifts each day Monday through Sunday.  Everyone will be required to work a few weekend shifts each month. Starting rate $13.00 per hour. To be considered for a Lifeguard position, applicants must be at least 16 years old.  Completion of junior year in high school is desirable. 


WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (WSI)
Arlington Recreation is seeking qualified individuals to teach swim lessons at Reservoir Beach. Qualified WSI's are responsible for planning, coordinating and teaching American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim and Water Safety Courses. Applicants must possess current WSI Certification, Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification and CPR Certification prior to employment. Starting rate $14.00 per hour. To be considered for a WSI position, applicants must be at least 17 years old.  Completion of senior year in high school is desirable.


MAINTENANCE WORKER:
Arlington Recreation is seeking qualified individuals to assist with general maintenance duties including, but not limited to, the cleanliness of the Reservoir, upkeep at Thorndike of leash dog park, and projects at the Ed Burns Arena. Hours will vary between 10 – 32 hours per week Monday – Sunday.  Employment season runs from June to August. Starting rate is $12.00 per hour.


PROGRAM COUNSELORS:

Arlington Recreation is seeking mature, responsible and dynamic individuals to become counselors for summer 2019.  Our program includes sports, swimming, nature, crafts, and special events for children entering Grades K through 8. Applicants must be friendly, enthusiastic, responsible and enjoy working with children! Season is late June through mid August.  Starting rate $12.00 per hour. Must be 16 years of age or older and possess a CPR/First Aid Certification.

  • CLUB REC: Program for youth grades K – 5. 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Located at Dallin School.
  • CLUB REC EXTENDED DAY:  Programs for youth K-5. 7:00 am – 9:00 am, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Located at Dallin School.
  • KIDS CORNER: Program for youth ages 2.9 –K. 8:30 am – 12:00 pm. Located at 352 Mass Ave.
  • KIDS CORNER EXTENDED DAY: Program for youth ages 2.9 –K. 7:30am-8:30am, 12:00pm-2:00pm. Located at 352 Mass Ave.

SUMMER EXPLORATION:

Outdoor adventure activities for youth grades 6-9. 8:30am-3:30pm.
Must be 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications required. Dynamic and charismatic personality that will engage, inspire and encourage children of all ages. Enthusiasm and experience teaching children
