UPDATE NEW SESSION ADDED: 8/24 – 8/27

After receiving a great deal of feedback and requests, Arlington Recreation has made the decision to ADD AN ADDITIONAL WEEK of the SUMMER ON SUMMER STREET PROGRAM!

This new session, Week 5, will be offered Monday August 24th – Thursday, August 27th at Hill’s Hill /Ed Burns Arena.  

REGISTRATION for the recently added Week 5 session WILL OPEN Wednesday, August 19th at 12:00pm. Registration can be completed online or by calling our office at 781-316-3800 between 8:00am– 4:00pm. We ask that you please register online if possible. All individuals that have attended the program or were waitlisted for the program previously have been emailed this information.

This program will be limited to maximum (30) participants and will be first come, first serve. You must be registered in order to secure your child a spot.

Registration will close on Friday, August 21st at 12:00pm if there are open spots still remaining in the program. All registered participants will be assigned to groups that have specific drop off/pick up times. Group assignments and more information will be sent out to all Week 5 participants on Friday afternoon. All campers must submit the required health and emergency forms in order to attend the program.

This added Week 5 Session will be the final week of the program unfortunately. The department will be shifting our focus to prepare for our fall/winter program offerings which include after-school & preschool. We thank you all for all your support this summer. Registration opens July 1st at 8:00am and will be limited to a maximum of (40) participant per week. Please note this is set up as a new program. All individuals registered for the planned 2020 Club Rec program will be CREDITED and will need to register again for this program.
 
Registrations for the planned Club Rec sessions for these weeks will not be transferred. Registration will be initially set up to take (30) individuals. If and when the program reaches (30) registrations, a free wait list will start. We encourage to place your child on the wait list as we do increasing this number. Please note that if your child is wait listed and a space becomes available in the program, we will contact you directly.

This program will follow all EEC and local Board of Health recommendations and policies. Our program policies have been reviewed and approved by the Arlington Board of Health. A copy of our summer policies for the Summer on Summer Street Program will be available online at www.arlingtonrec.com as soon as they have been approved by the BOH. Please be aware that program participants will need to be screened into the program every day.
 
Program Information
Arlington Recreation will offer (4) one-week sessions of the Summer on Summer Street Program. This program will be held at Hills Hill Field and the Ed Burns Arena, running from 8:30/9:00 am to 2:30/3:00 pm with a maximum of 40 participants that are divided into four separate groups. Tents will be set up on Hills Hill Field and each group will be assigned a tent. There will be no intermingling between groups throughout the day. Each group will receive dedicated drop off and pick up times to ensure minimum large group exposure. Our program will only meet Monday through Thursday and will be OUTSIDE only with the exception of the use of the bathroom facilities at the Ed Burns Arena. If a day is cancelled due to inclement weather the program will take place on Friday. If there are multiple days cancelled in a week, prorated program credits will be given. Swimming will not be part of the program this summer. 
 
Registration and Availability
Space is limited to potentially max of (40) participants per week. Early registration is strongly encouraged. Registration will open for these (4) weeks on July 1st at 8:00am.
Ages: Grades K – 6 in Fall 2020; Pre-K experience is recommended for Kindergarten age.
Dates:   July 27 – July 30, August 3– August 6, August 10 – August 13, August 17 – August 20 (Monday through Thursday Only! The program will ONLY meet on Fridays in the event of a rain date that week)
Time:     8:30am–3:00pm (Depending on assigned group, participants will be notified on their group placement prior to each weekly session)
               Group 1 – Drop Off: 8:30am – Pick Up: 2:30pm
               Group 2 – Drop Off: 8:40am – Pick Up: 2:40pm
               Group 3 – Drop Off: 8:50am – Pick Up: 2:50pm
               Group 4 – Drop Off: 9:00am – Pick Up: 3:00pm     
Cost: $300 per week for Summer on Summer Street
 
What should my child bring to the program each day? - Children should arrive to the program each day wearing sneakers, active clothing, and sunscreen. They should bring a backpack carrying a water bottle, snack, lunch, additional sunscreen, and a change of clothes if desired. No Peanut Products Please! There is something here for everyone! Science and nature, sports and games, arts and crafts, and other creative activities, just to name a few. Child-to-counselor ratio is approximately 5:1.
 
Screening Policy
All staff, parents, children, and any individuals seeking entry into the program space are required to and will be directed to self-screen at home, prior to coming to the program for the day.

-Self-screening shall include checking for symptoms included fever, cough, shortness of breath, gastrointestinal symptoms, abdominal pain, unexplained rash, new loss of 5 taste/smell, muscle aches, or any other symptoms that feel like a cold. Anyone with a fever of 100.0°F or above or any other signs of illness will NOT be permitted to enter the program.

- All parents and staff must sign written attestations DAILY regarding any household contacts with COVID-19, symptoms (e.g., fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste, or diarrhea), or if they have given children medicine to lower a fever. Any and all individuals who decline to complete the screening questionnaire or have temperature checked will not be permitted to enter the program space or attend the program.

- Prior to arriving to the program each morning, parents/guardians are REQUIRED to complete the Summer on Summer Street Daily Health Screening Questions. This online form must be compelted DAILY for each individual participant. The link to this Google Form will be sent to all registered participants. We encourage that parents/guardians save this link as a note on their phone or download the Google Form App for easy accessibility. An Arlington Recreation staff member will be present at the check in station to help you complete these forms if you forget on a specific morning or are unable to access the online form. A parent/guardian must also sign their child in with once they arrive at the screening tent. Drop off will be tiered by group.

Required Documents
In order to attend the program, the following forms are required to be filled out for each participant prior to the program. These forms can be found below and will also be sent to participants once they are registered. They are as follows:

- Certificate of Current Immunizations (To be provided or filled out by your child’s doctor)
- Emergency Information Form
- Pick Up Plan/Individuals Authorized for Pick Up Form
- Statement of Understanding/Acknowledgment/Permission Form
- Medication Consent Form (If applicable)
- Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plan (If applicable)

All required forms should be sent as scans via email to zvaillette@town.arlington.ma.us or dropped off the Arlington Recreation Office. The Arlington Recreation office is located at 422 Summer Street and open M-F from 8:00am-4:00pm. All forms DUE the Wednesday before attending the program.

Additional Information
Arlington Recreation will run the following summer program for youth entering grades K-6. This summer will certainly be different than summers of past but our dedicated group leaders will do their best to ensure a safe, fun, experience for all. Activities will include fun arts and crafts projects (each participant will receive their own individual art supplies bag for the week and to keep), non-contact sports and games, science and nature walks, and plenty of imagination.
 
Our staff consists of education professionals, college and high school students. All programs attempt to meet the needs of all children. Please let us know if your child will need special help to make the experience as rewarding as possible.
 
Arlington Recreation Summer staff will go through a mandatory orientation that will include COVID-19 safety training, first aid review, and training in a bullying awareness program that will incorporate the Arlington Recreation Anti-Bullying Policy.
